The Higher Institute of Science and Technology of Mozambique (ISCTEM) graduated this year 244 graduates and six masters in the various courses taught by the institution. The masters have graduated from the Project Management (5) and Public health (1) courses. The ceremony that took place in June this year took place at the Conference Center of the now defunct Telecommunications Company of Mozambique (TDM), in the city of Maputo.

The event directed by Prof. Dr. Maomede Naguib Omar, Director General of ISCTEM
attended by graduates and their families, teachers and other guests.
In his message, the director general of ISCTEM stressed that the eighteenth graduation ceremony takes place at a very important stage for the institution, as internally it seeks to continually improve the complex educational process, particularly that of teaching and learning.

“This need is made even more acute on the one hand by the growing number of students seeking ISCTEM and on the other by the increasing demands of the market, society and the state for higher education” , refers to the message of Professor Naguib Omar.
He explained that the eighteenth graduation ceremony at ISCTEM is not the work of chance. It is the result of a selfless effort on the part of the graduates in the incessant search for knowledge, translated through competences, capacity, skills and attitudes developed over the years in the different courses. “The successes we have today would not have been possible without the inseparable informed intervention of the faculty, the invaluable collaboration of the technical and administrative staff, and the collaboration of the various partners of ISCTEM,” he said.

The Director General of ISCTEM also referred to the complex challenges facing the institution today and tomorrow, namely the pressing need to raise its quality standards in teaching, research and extension, “thereby creating value and relevance to the institution. market and society ”.
Dr. Óscar Monteiro, former combatant of the Liberation Front of Mozambique (FRELIMO) was the guest of honor at this ceremony. In addressing graduate students, he stressed the importance of humility, stressing that it is not an academic title that gives respect to people, but what they do and prove to be in reaction to others. “We need to live in harmony to ensure social welfare,” he said.

In his speech of just over thirty minutes, Dr. Óscar Monteiro invited participants, particularly graduates, to reflect on the notion of the state. Without referring to theoretical concepts, he said that given the uncertainties and difficulties of various kinds that Mozambicans are experiencing today, it is curious to speak of the importance of the state. “The questions I am going to ask are valid for everyone, not just those who have studied law, administration, business management: has this model of state that we have, governments, assemblies at various levels, public administration already exhausted all potentialities? What still needs to be done? In other words, isn't this model ignoring dormant talents, capabilities, resources in society that we need to go get them? ”- He added that“ when we find that after almost fifty years we still can't solve basic problems we have to ask ourselves If this generous effort, so devoted over the years, is embedded in the best institutional armor, not to change but to reflect and this is the best place for reflection. ”
He concluded his speech during which he spoke not only of the notion of the state but of the process of liberation of Mozambique, inviting graduates to make sacrifices for the good of Mozambican society, regardless of the challenges that the professions might pose to them, “because as he said. your colleague, we trust you ”, in reference to the message of the graduates presented at the ceremony.
