CISCTEM

The Center of Investigation in Health, Science and Technology (CISCTEM) has been created as an autonomous unit within ISCTEM (the Institute of Science and technology of Mozambique) as a fulcrum for the aggregation and dissemination of knowledge within Mozambique and the world. CISCTEM’s mission is to deliver research solutions to address socio-economic development, optimize resources and to focus on the environment for the development of a resilient Mozambique. The center brings together the academic knowledge and experience of a leading Mozambican educational institution, and a network of researchers, scientists and engineers from Mozambique and from around the world, poised to address the key socio-economic and developmental challenges facing Mozambique, Africa and the world.

Whereas the center has its genesis within an educational institution, its roots are founded in meritocracy, sustainability, efficiency and CISCTEM ascribes itself to the principles of respect, ethicality and social development. It is upon these principles that CISCTEM has engaged with local and international institutions to foster research goals and objectives that support development through research, education through extension, and the improvement of education through knowledge sharing and knowledge dissemination.

At the forefront of the objectives for research is the notion of multi-disciplinary or trans-disciplinary research. As part of the Phase I design, CISCTEM is embracing the health sciences and incorporating other disciplines within studies that extend the knowledge ascertained to holistically assess the real development challenges in Mozambique. For example, baseline data from health sciences can be modeled to investigate the study of infections; the study of waterborne diseases can incorporate geology and mining, amongst others.

In addition to the above, CISCTEM will also focus on becoming a repository of baseline data that can serve to support longitudinal studies, comparative studies and a multitude of other studies that offer greater insight into socio-economic development of Mozambique within the African diaspora and within the global marketplace.

CISCTEM has, since its inception, already taken strides to create a global partnership network with renowned local and international partners, and it is poised to continue to address its development through carefully selected and executed partnerships that address the short-term and long-term needs of the partners involved. Recently, CISCTEM partnered with the University of Aveiro’s Technology Transfer Center (UATEC) to create a knowledge-based program aimed at bolstering trade between Mozambique and the United States of America.

CISCTEM promotes entrepreneurship, job creation, economic diversification and resource stewardship for a resilient and prosperous Mozambique. Our people are premier researchers focused on developing objectives based on the national development needs. We engage stakeholders, partners and the community to contextualize challenges, define research directions and deliver system-based solutions.

We pursue continuous improvement in all we do.
